A study conducted by the Princeton University Neuroscience Institute found that physical clutter in your environment can tax your brain and cause you to feel overwhelmed. When your surroundings are cluttered, it becomes harder to focus and process information. This, in turn, can lead to anxiety and stress.-
Another study published in the journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found results similar to the Princeton study. The study found that people who considered their homes to be cluttered reported feeling more fatigued and had more difficulty concentrating than those who considered their homes to be organized-.
The takeaway from these studies is clear: having a tidy and organized home or workspace can help reduce stress levels and improve focus and concentration. If you're looking to boost your mental health, one of the first places you should start is with organization.
